Mythical Creatures is a suite for brass band written by Magnus Brandseth for the Krohnengen Brass Band and their Siddis Brass 2023 performance. The suite consists of musical portraits of mythical creatures that have captured our imagination and curiosity for centuries. The four movements each depicts a mythical character, with distinct musical motifs. At the same time, the entire work is musically interwoven, and the observant listener will recognize recurring phrases and tonalities throughout the suite.
The Yeti – At the Foot of the Mountain
The first movement takes us to the Himalayan region of Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet where the elusive Yeti is said to reside. With its elusive character, the Yeti has been the subject of many expeditions and sightings throughout the years. However, concrete evidence of its existence is yet to be found. At the foot of the mountain, locals tell stories of a large, hairy creature with incredible strength and agility, who roams the snowy peaks. Some view the Yeti as a dangerous beast, while others hold it in high regard as a spiritually significant figure in their culture. Despite the mystery that surrounds this legendary creature, the legend of the Yeti has captured the imaginations of people all over the world and continues to intrigue and inspire researchers, adventurers, and the public. Through mighty melodies and driving rhythms, the music illustrates a thrilling adventure in searching for the mysterious and legendary creature.
