Frigg – The Wife of Odin

This piece was commissioned for Eikanger-Bjørsvik Musikklag for Siddis 2022

Frigg, wife of Odin, stands foremost among the goddesses. She knows the fate of all beings, yet speaks no prophecy. She dwells in Fensalir, the marsh-halls, embodying both fidelity and contradiction.

Close to Frigg stand three goddesses: Lin, Fulla, and Gná.

Lin protects those whom Frigg chooses to spare from harm.

Fulla, crowned with gold and with flowing hair, guards Frigg’s possessions and keeps her secrets.

Gná serves as messenger, riding swiftly between worlds on her horse Hofvarpnir, moving through air and water alike.

In this work, Frigg and her companions are portrayed through the horn section, whose sound world reflects both their power and their restraint.
